Internal linking / WordPress / SaaS

Ten links per article. One editor in charge.

Auto Internal Linking reads every article and the whole archive behind it, then writes the internal links an editor would: the right page, the right words, the right sentence. Today it serves 109 clients, including 9 media groups, and has placed more than 17 million links. An editor approves every one.

The opportunity

Give publishers links they’d put their name to.

Keyword plugins find a phrase, paste a link and move on. The anchor reads like a tag, and the page it points to only shares a word. Editors undo the links or switch the plugin off. The opportunity was a tool that reads like an editor, writes like one, and never publishes on its own.

The approach

Read everything. Write like an editor. Leave the button to a person.

01

Read the whole archive

The engine reads the full article, every claim and every existing link, then maps the archive page by page. Each question the article raises gets the one page that answers it best.

02

Write three kinds of edit

Link the words that already fit. Rewrite one sentence when they don’t. Add one to three sentences when the reader is missing a step, with every new fact traced to a source.

03

Check, then hand over

Four checks run on every edit: anchor, destination, evidence and exact placement. Edits land in the WordPress draft. The editor clicks Update, and undo restores the original exactly.
